Plastico. A village to see with arts and crafts

June 17, 2012  New initiative by the Amici del Sassello association in collaboration with the Lions Club Alba Docilia: a model depicting the town of Sassello in its most significant aspects, enriched by the precious macachi of Albisola that bring to life the town's economic activities.

In a dedicated ground floor room, a model has been set up with the most characteristic places of the town (Bastia Soprana tower, ironworks, amaretti factories, medieval bridge, square, inns, quarry, charcoal pile, river, theater, etc.) populated by the Albisola figurines "i macachi".

The idea was born in September 2011: after involving master Sandro Lorenzini who designed the project, it was entrusted to the hands of members Carla Matteoni, Ivana Rossi, and Elvio Ronchetti. The initiative aroused the interest of the Lions Club of Albisole, chaired by Enrica Noceto, who, thanks to donations of products from the Sassello amaretti factories, prepared nice Christmas bags for the members, which helped cover the “living” expenses of the model.

Many of the representations in the model are dedicated to women: strong, stubborn women who knew how to help their men in the difficult life of those times. Women who, even in winter, once a week washed clothes along the river, often breaking the ice, and then hung them on nearby branches. Women who carried wood to the fireplaces of the houses or lunch to the men busy watching over the charcoal piles in the woods, charcoal piles from which they could not move away until the precious charcoal used in the ironworks was opened and loaded. Women at the market, in the inns, and in the amaretti factories.

The 2 by 3 meter model has been dedicated to the historian and founder of the association Pietro Rossi (Piero), whose sculpture “dominates” the exhibition.
